As promised in my earlier preview, here are my insider's observations of the Golden Globe® Awards and the after parties that you won't find anywhere else.
I'd like to start off by saying while on the red carpet I accidentally stepped on the dress worn by Renee Zellweger and her immediate comment after she recognized me was something to the effect of how she looks up to me and one day she hopes she too can have a successful blog such as mine. OK, that part of the story is not true (if you watched the Golden Globe® Awards on TV, you know I 'borrowed' that from Geena Davis, the first female President of the United States ... well, she plays one on TV ... and if you didn't watch the show, ask someone who has ... there are millions of them in hundreds of countries), however, the part about stepping on Renee's dress is true (she was very gracious and apologetic for having her dress get in my way) and I was afraid for a moment that she was going to reveal a lot more than she may have wanted to. Anyway, after that incident, she was very careful on the red carpet not to be within a foot or two of anyone who might have repeated the same misstep.
In my opinion, the best dress worn by the most attractive award definitely belonged to Charlize Theron. Unlike a lot of others, she actually looks better in person than she does in her movies, including the movies in which she wears makeup to make her look ugly. She was one of the 50 or so presenters this year and therefore qualified to be on the red carpet. Interesting fact: Unless you are nominated or presenting or a guest of either a nominee or a presenter, no matter how famous of a star you are or however many people step on your big star on the Hollywood sidewalks, you were not allowed to attend the show and step unto the red carpet and participate in the 'Arrivals' show of dresses, designers, jewelry and even talent.
For all others who couldn't attend the award show in the International Ballroom, there were the five after parties at the Beverly Hilton. And even the guests of the hotel, at least those that paid more than three grand to reserve rooms overlooking the red carpet, got to see the stars up close and personal. The best party was the InStyle and Warner Bros. party complete with A-list stars. With all the money these stars make, it was interesting to watch them attack the goodie bag tables, with each goodie bag containing approximately $1,500 worth of gifts. Except for the presenters whose goodie bags were filled with $60,000 plus valued each. Among them, the most expensive item, a certificate for a $22,000 expedition to see the wildlife of the arctic on a cozy 54-cabin ship for two weeks including airfare for two to, and hotel accommodations in Argentina, where the journey begins.
Of course, I came home with no goodie bags but with great memories and my shoes complete with skidmarks from Renee's dress. Maybe I'll put them up on Ebay!
