"Changing the Image of Turks & Turkey, One Frame at a Time."
My previous post about the project 'Broken Angel,' the first film conceived and financed by the Turkish-American community, was to highlight a "great opportunity for people who want to be proactive in responding to the irresponsible 'Turk bashing.' For years, we've wanted an opportunity for better representation but with a quality product, and even had our own ideas regarding the same. I urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to finally do something about it."
It's simply not enough to reverse the public opinion and image of Turks and Turkey, especially in today's global environment of Armenian Genocide claims and racist, as well as ethnic tendencies bent on further polarization and injustices, by simply ignoring such opportunities, yet passionately participate in non-binding discussion panels to prove our point and our worthiness.
Why not use Sports, Arts and Entertainment as venues of greater understanding of Turks, and Turkey, anything Turkish? Wouldn't the international appeal and well-received successes of our labor in this arena yield more desirable outcomes? Wouldn't we find ourselves in a better position to explain our case?
What do you think the total impact of the movie; 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' was to the Greek-American community?
And when such an opportunity finally arrives on the scene, should we not at least help with its evolution? And in today's world of financial gratification, shouldn't we reach deep into our pockets and take action by participating instead of our ever-present love of waiting for someone else to do something about it?
Even a dollar may go a long way toward building the bridge to cross the dangerous waters. But if we are able to spend more, why wait for the waters to subside and slow down the bridge building? Why not accelerate the process and take credit for that bridge before someone else builds one faster and requires us to pay dearly each time we cross it? Let's not wait until we cross that bridge to find out. When will we become bridge builders instead of bridge crossers?
By the way, Broken Angel is an opportunity to become an investor and participate in a rate of return once the movie is released. They are not only asking for donations but for investors as well.
Can we find 100 people with $1,000 each to raise the next $100K necessary to not only start the process of filming but to finish it all the way through? And from what I understand, it may be the last $100K they need. What about 1,000 people investing $100 each? Can we each bring 10 such people to the table? Shouldn't we at least try? And when you do, tell them 'TalkTurkey' sent you. Who knows, you might even get first row seats at the several premieres planned throughout the U.S.
