I don't want to sound like a broken record but . . .
You may have heard about the Turkish-American project, 'Broken Angel,' to be shot in Los Angeles in its entirety, with Turkish and American stars. The movie is about a girl coming to Hollywood full of dreams and hope, but is "dragged under by the side of America not really seen in many films or TV shows."
But the theme of the movie, 'Lies are louder than truth,' makes for a perfect placement opportunity to vent your frustrations, as well as voice your vote about some of the things us Turks are faced with indiscriminately. Everything from the debate about the Armenian Genocide resolution, or to choose the path of non-resolution as I call it, to the myths about the perceptive image of Turks in the U.S. is what this movie is getting ready to dispel and stir up.
And we don't even have to rely on Turkey to act on our behalf and to prove our accomplishments here in the U.S. Finally; us Turks in the U.S. will have a project so tantamount to be proud of as our own. It will definitely go a long way toward a better appreciation of who we are, and more importantly that we exist. We're also very smart and very talented.
This is a collaborative project of the husband and wife team of Turkish-American Leslie and Aclan Bates-Buyukturkoglu. One is an American who calls Turkey her second home. In fact she's a Turkish citizen proving you can still be a Turk even if you're American. She doesn't yell and scream about her 'minority' status and demand land from Turkey either. And she's more of an asset to what being Turkish is all about, more than some Turks will ever be. She is a producer, writer, lawyer, and a businesswoman with many talents (including fixing helicopters,) each with proven successes in her own right. The other is an accomplished actor, director, artist, filmmaker, and a Turk, as well as an American, who now calls Los Angeles his home. He also has an actor's studio where he trains future, as well as current actors of varying career levels. Some of his clients include world-renowned actors and actresses.
The two of them have created a film that is bound to shake up Hollywood. This is not some third-rate production that we will all cheer amongst ourselves and be content with. This movie is going to be an Oscar or a Golden Globe contender. This incredible duo, along with us Turkish-Americans' help, will finally produce a product that all Americans will find delightful and that all Turks will be proud of.
Remember, 'lies are louder than truth.' But in today's world of visual reality and quality discernability, we can make our voices heard by participating in the passion that continually drives Aclan and Leslie.
