. . . is the headline by Amerikan Turk. 'Distress calls' are going out in Turkey once again, and the country is definitely in chaos mode. It seems like everytime Turkey makes front page news in the global media (and I mean really makes the headlines, not the ones Turkish press makes it sound ike the whole world is talking about us when they're not,) it's all negative. And the Turks then think the whole world is out to get us. I guess the Turks of Turkey don't realize they're more guilty for making the news than those who report it, even if it is biased.
Now the latest images from istanbul highight police trying to break up May Day riots today at the same square when 30 years ago to the day one of the deadliest May Day celebrations in Turkey was recorded. I guess in Turkey 'some' people look for any reason to 'celebrate' their frustrations, whereas others as 'provocateurs' enjoy having many options to exercise their hidden agenda by taking advantage of such gullibility.
It must be nearing tourist season . . .
PART-II: TURKISH PRESIDENTIAL CRISIS
Now the entire nation of Turkey is waiting for the Constitutional Court to render its decision. Reminds me of how Bush became President in 2000.
Here's what the global mainstream media is saying about all this (and I see similar observations by most of the non-Turkish press.)
"Turkey needs to better accommodate religion in the public sphere. If it's overreach that secularists fear (and there are some grounds for this), they should take heart in checks on government that are functioning, including their own protests. If they want more checks, they should consider changing an electoral system that has given the AKP disproportional power.Rule by fundamentalists of both stripes – either secularists or Islamists – will only harm Turkey."
from the Christian Science Monitor.
It also seems to me that all the 'reforms,' and 'conciliatory' perception created in the West of Turkey, made possible through painstaking hard work in the past five years under AKP, as well as the notion of how 'moderate' Islam can coexist in a secular society as a role model for the rest of the Islamic World to see, have been erased in a quick week. Including its financial worth. "Turkey is a poorer country compared to Friday" said Babacan, Minister in charge of the economy. Good work people!
