Have you heard the latest debacle?
A woman trying to board a plane fails the metal detector at the security check point. She is then wanded by a handheld detector, and tells the agent she's wearing nipple rings. A few security agents are called in to decide what happens next. And she's ordered to remove her nipple rings in a private area. She has trouble removing the second one, and asks for pliers. Mission finally accomplished, and she's allowed to board her flight. Even though she also had a belly ring which was allowed to stay put.
Scary, isn't it? What next? Require men to remove penis rings? Women with ...?
Now we'll have the ACLU involved, even though she's simply asking for an apology. My prediction is that she'll end up making some money out of this ordeal, and will be able to afford more piercings.
Should ring companies follow the lead of shoe manufacturers and come up with an airport safe product? And are we taking this security thing a bit too far? What else can be expected out of a government which insists we are shown the 'how to put on your seat belt' demonstration given every opportunity.
By the way, shouldn't we be detecting people instead of objects? But wait ... that would be profiling, and discriminatory. There goes more of our civil liberties again, at our own insistence.
