Once upon a time here in L.A., if you purchased a hybrid vehicle, the State of California would reward you with a sticker allowing you to drive on the carpool lanes all by yourself, without the need for a blowup doll in the passenger seat.
Those days are gone now. No more stickers left. You still need at least one more person in your car to drive fast. Do you remember the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode in which Larry David picks up a street walker just so he can get to the Dodger game on time?
But now with the gallon of gas over four dollars, hybrids are making more sense, even if they are still ugly. Not really, since more and more car manufacturers are now building a hybrid version of their popular models, some getting 40 mpg or more. Even Mercedes and BMW are developing vehicles in the hybrid, or ethanol and hydrogen or biodiesel alternatives, due to hit the U.S. market in the next year or two. Hybrid mania is here . . . Go Green!
Check out this great resource for more information about Hybrids.
And even do a mileage comparison between what you own now and what you may have to buy soon.
Happy Earth Day!
