What did he know? And when did he know it?
I notice a lot of the original and die-hard Obama supporters (not ones who've since jumped on the bandwagon) have been silent regarding Illinois Governor Blagojavich's 'Seat for Sale' scheme, now referred to as 'Pay-to-Play.'
How is it that a Senator (now President-Elect) would not care who would take his vacated seat in the Senate? Why should I take Obama's word that he simply didn't want to influence, or worse interfere, with the Governor's process of picking Obama's replacement?
I actually do believe Obama that he did not interfere. But in my opinion, Obama or most likely his transition team may have tried to influence the Governor's decision. Most telling was when Obama yesterday correcting the "We were not ..." to "I, was not aware of what was happening," responding to a question about the Blagojevich arrest.
And the good Governor did what any (allegedly) corrupt politician would. He (allegedly) asked for favors in return. And (allegedly) indicated he who offers most wins. Read the 'Criminal Complaint' here.
That's why there's even talk of 'Candidate #5,' formerly known as Jesse Jackson Jr., offering as much as $500K to be the selectee. Although, as of today, Mr. Jackson vehemently denies that claim or any other tainted involvement. But at the advice of his attorney, doesn't feel like answering any questions by the media. Great legal advice, but the incorrect political move if you ask me.
And don't you find it odd, a close Obama friend, and an early odds-on favorite candidate Ms. Valerie Jarrett suddenly withdrew her name from contention. And in return was offered a staff position in the Obama transition team?
Illinois, and particularly Chicago Politics have been corrupt for decades. In fact, the past four out of the eight governors have either been arrested or convicted of federal crimes, including Blagojavich's predecessor.
And as Larry Elder so stated on 'Larry King Live' last night, although I'd give him the benefit of doubt, Obama, after all, is a politician. And a Chicago one at that.
