Everyone in America knows about Dr. Oz. Even Oprah. He even has his own show now, premiering September 14, kind of like 'Dr. Phil,' another Oprah spin-off.
I am not going to write about the accolades of Dr. Oz from a medical, health, or lifestyle sense here. You can see that anywhere. What I did want to touch on is something more dear to me.
There are videos on the Internet of Dr. Mehmet Oz's lectures to medical students in Turkey ... in perfect Turkish, complete with medical terms/references in Turkish that many lay Turks in Turkey do not possess in their vocabulary. Sure he has an accent. Sure he sounds like a 'foreigner' when he speaks Turkish. But the reality is; for a man born and raised in the U.S., he is to be commended. Let it be a lesson to transplanted Turks who insist on speaking English at all costs at home with their kids, and intentionally deprive them of growing up mastering a second language.
I guess we should be grateful; at least our kids do grow up speaking English, unlike some others who have it easy here in the U.S. As Dr. Mehmet Oz says in the video, "Mutlukuk sukretmekten geliyor" (loosely translated: 'Happiness comes from Gratefullness'). Well said!
